[Kerwin At AI Travel Pulse] Are AI Travel Planners Friend or Foe? The Debate Heats Up

10 AI Travel Itinerary Tools You MUST read about

Hi AI Traveler,

I hope you are having a great week.

Welcome to another edition of AI Travel Pulse, where I keep you in the loop on all things AI and travel. Today, I’m diving into a hot topic that's got the industry buzzing: AI-powered travel itinerary planners.

I wanted to use this image even though it’s clearly not perfect, so at some point in the future, when AI gets better at creating images, we can compare where we came from.

The Rise of AI Travel Planners

You've probably noticed the surge of AI tools promising to revolutionize trip planning. These apps claim to whip up personalized itineraries in seconds. Sounds crazy, right?

But here's the twist: many travel content creators and industry experts are waving red flags. They argue that these tools are not correct and should not be trusted rather than being able to give the traveler a helping hand. Let's break it down:

The Good:

  • Quick inspiration for destinations and activities

  • Time-saving for basic trip outlines

  • Helpful for travelers who feel overwhelmed by planning

The Not-So-Good:

  • These automated systems tend to give generic recommendations that lack a personal touch; although I’ve gotten some really good recommendations when using GuideGeek from Matador

  • The potential for outdated or inaccurate information - I’ve actually seen this; however, when I corrected the system, it fixed it; but still it was wrong the first time and that’s a problem

  • The traveler misses out on the joy of discovery in travel planning; some may say otherwise :-).

Learn AI in 5 Minutes a Day

What This Means for You

As travel professionals, it's crucial to stay ahead of this trend. While AI planners might not replace human expertise anytime soon, they're changing traveler expectations and much faster than you think.

You should really consider how you can better the things that AI travel itineraries provide. One thing is speed. I mean, the response from the AI tools is almost immediate:

  1. You can create your own itinerary tool using the data from your own website or document

  2. Re-emphasize the value of human insight in travel planning so the traveler wants your information rather than the AI’s; this will be tough

  3. Explore ways to integrate AI tools that complement, rather than replace, your services; so don’t hide in the corner, but embrace the tools, find out what they can do and figure out how to do it better.
