[Kerwin At AI Travel Pulse] Another Travel Brand Is Using AI | Young Folks Don't Seem To Like AI In Travel

In this issue, I look at the problems I think I will have with using AI to plan my travels, plus guess what one travel brand is up to in terms of AI?

Hi AI Traveler,

If you’re new to the newsletter, welcome. If you’re a regular thank you for sticking with me ;-).

I hope you’re enjoying the newsletter. Remember to let me know if there is anything in particular you’d like me to cover. Just hit reply and let me know.

I’m still planning my European trip for next week and beyond and I’ve not used AI to help me book the flights as yet. I think my issue is that it’s hard for me to encapsulate my thoughts and place it into the AI. For example, I’ll do a routing and then when I see the airlines and the flights Google Flights return, it gives me ideas on a new routing that will satisfy personal goals.

So in order for the AI to do the planning, I’d have to let it know my overall personal goals. I suppose I could do that although it learns from me each time I use it.

For example, I wanted to get from Doha to London, so I did the search and options came up on Pegasus, Qatar, Finnair, Etihad and a few more. It’s been ages I’ve flown Etihad and the fare they had was too good to pass up, plus I’ll pass through the new terminal in Abu Dhabi and also get to fly their 787. Plus I saw other routes based on the Etihad routing too. Such as flying Volotea; a new airline. I’ve been trying to fly them for over a year now.

But then once again looking at the schedule I saw that I could also fly ITA Airways and Wizzair; both two new airlines. Pretty hard to get all that from an AI search, but I guess if I had the right prompt I could. But then again, most people don’t travel like I do :-). I will think of the prompt I need to use and I think I’d have to use Gemini as it has better at airline schedules/pricing.

What say you?

💬 Question of the Week:
If AI could unlock one hidden perk for you when traveling — like free lounge access, secret flight deals, or a cultural experience you’d never find on your own — which perk would you pick?

AI In Tourism

I got yer another news release that GuideGeek is running yet another tourism board’s website. This time its’ Germany. Remember Emma? She’s the AI that Germany is using and so many travel content creators was upset about. Well, she’s workign with GuideGeek now. It’s not going to stop folks. You just gotta get in on it.

Here’s an excerpt from the news release:

German National Tourist Office Leverages GuideGeek AI Technology to Engage American Travelers

NEW YORK, Aug. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Travelers planning a trip to Germany or traveling throughout the country can now rely on "Emma – Your AI Guide to Germany" a new AI travel genius that provides instant answers to travel or tourism-related questions about Germany. The German National Tourist Office (GNTO) recently introduced the feature using GuideGeek artificial intelligence technology from Matador Network.

"Americans know about Berlin and Oktoberfest, but Germany has such a wide range of travel experiences," says Matador Network CEO Ross Borden. "There are castles everywhere, amazing food and wine, pristine nature and incredible art and music. This new AI travel genius is designed to make it extremely easy for travelers to dive deeper into all Germany has to offer and plan an unforgettable trip."

Please hit reply and let me know your thoughts.

AI Tip
Use AI to test multiple versions of your trip before you book.

Instead of locking into the first option you see on Google Flights or Expedia, try this prompt in ChatGPT (or Claude):

“Give me three different [X]-day trip options from [your city] to [destination]. Each option should have a different airline routing, estimated price, and unique angle (ex: fastest, cheapest, or most scenic).”

Why it works:

  • You instantly see different perspectives on the same trip.

  • You might uncover routes you wouldn’t normally consider.

  • Great way to compare what matters most to you — time, cost, or experience.

💡 Pro move: Save these variations in a notebook or Google Doc so you can quickly compare them against live flight searches.
