[Kerwin At AI Travel Pulse] From NYC to Colorado: Why Everyone’s Adding AI Travel Concierges

AI is being used more and more in travel; I've talked about a few examples in this issue.

In partnership with

Hi AI Traveler,

If you’re new to the newsletter, welcome. If you’re a regular thank you for sticking with me ;-).

If you’re using ChatGPT, ChatGPT 5 is now out. And it has issues, but they’re working to get it up to snuff. You can always use the previous version if you don’t get the results you want.

💬 Question of the Week:
What’s one part of travel planning where you think AI could help you most?
Reply and let me know — I’ll feature a few responses in next week’s issue.

I know that some of you may not be AI happy, but it’s being used in travel a lot more than you think. If you’re a travel content creator, you have to keep on top of this; thankfully that’s where I come in and I’m striving to keep you informed.

I got two press releases from tourism boards promoting their new AI travel concierge on their websites and social media. What they have in common is tha they are powered by GuideGeek, which I’ve reviewed here. They are:

  • NYC Tourism. From their news release - To access Libby, travelers can visit nyctourism.com and click the chat icon in the bottom-right corner. They can also connect with the AI on WhatsApp or Instagram to ask questions and receive tips on the go while exploring the city. In addition, 4,000-plus LinkNYC screens at transit stops will promote the AI to visitors and locals.

  • Colorado Tourism. From their news release. To access Colorado Concierge, travelers can visit colorado.com and click the chat icon in the bottom-right corner. Try asking the AI for a full itinerary based on your interests and budget, or ask it a specific question like for places to catch live music in Boulder.

Also, there’s been reports that Delta is using AI to price their flights. This is called Revenue Management folks and it’s been around for a long time. I believe Delta is just using the latest tools to help them whether we like it or not. Now, Delta is weird as they along with other airlines are using what’s called Dynamic pricing, which causes their fares to be really high. I always sayy, look, if you don’t like the price, don’t buy, because their systems will see that and drop the price. You have to play their silly game.

The bottomline is that airlines are going to use the latest technology to their advantage; always have.

Now, with that said Delta is rebutting what customers are saying about this and it’s a good read. So check it out at https://news.delta.com/delta-responds-misinformation-around-ai-pricing.

And with all that said, a travel influencer reported that Uber is charging more for rides to JFK based on the airline you choose even when the airlines are in the same terminal. In my mind that’s just cheating and they should be fined for it. Just greed! You can see it here - https://www.instagram.com/p/DNGIO65RZyH/.

Did I Use AI To Plan My Next Trip To Europe?

I’m planning a European trip at the end of the month. When I travel I have specific goals, new airline, new aircraft type, new route, new country and new airport. As such, I won’t just fly say New York to London, I’ll maybe do New York to Boston then Boston to the Azores and then the Azores to Europe, just to log new airports, airlines and routes, etc. The destination is secondary :-).

So I’ve booked the flights I need for this trip and I’m going to see if I told the AI what I want to do, will it give me ideas, and suggest the same flights, etc. It took me a few days to get the flights figured out and the hotels as I wanted to be close to where I wanted to be and also choose a particular hotel for hotel status acquisition.

Also, I didn’t have a set routing at the outset. The plan evolved as I saw airlines I wanted to fly show up and also the prices of the flights from Texas to Europe. So Sodoing teh searches myself is definiltely better than using the AI I think.

I’ll have more in the next issue.
