[Kerwin At AI Travel Pulse] SearchGPT Is Here

Let's take a look at what is SearchGPT

Hi AI Traveler,

I hope you are having a great week.

Sorry it’s been a bit since the last newsletter; I’ve been traveling a bit, watching the Olympics and using a lot of AI to make my daily efforts better. I’m still amazed at how AI has helped my productivity.

Welcome to another edition of AI Travel Pulse, where I keep you in the loop on all things AI and travel. Today, we’re diving into a fascinating development that’s making waves: SearchGPT and its impact on travel planning.

Here’s the image that the AI thought would be appropriate for this post. Again, posting it here for posterity.

The Evolution of Search with SearchGPT

You've heard of ChatGPT, but what about its cousin, SearchGPT? This AI tool is designed to enhance your search experience by providing more detailed, context-aware results directly from a chat interface. Imagine asking specific travel-related questions and getting comprehensive, tailored answers in real-time. Sounds intriguing, right?

SearchGPT promises to take the frustration out of sifting through countless search results by giving you the information you need in a conversational format. But, as with any new tech, there are both benefits and challenges to consider.

It’s in beta at the moment and you have to ask for an invite; once approved, you get a little prompt when you sign into your chatGPT account. You can sign up for the waitlist at https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9237891-obtaining-access-to-search-on-chatgpt.

As a test, I gave it this prompt (search request):

I'm heading to Seattle, Washington at the beginning of September. I'm an aviation geek, what should I do?

and I got this back

You should try a Google search to see what you get in comparison; I got a reddit result as the first answer, sigh…

The Good

  • Tailored Search Results: SearchGPT delivers more personalized answers, helping you find exactly what you’re looking for without the hassle.

  • Contextual Understanding: It interprets your queries in context, making your search process smoother and more intuitive.

  • Quick Answers: No more skimming through pages of search results—get the info you need fast.

The Not-So-Good

  • Potential for Bias: Like any AI, SearchGPT can reflect biases present in the data it was trained on, which might affect the accuracy or neutrality of its responses. In my example, only results from Visit Seattle was shown it seems.

  • Dependence on Internet Sources: If the information online is outdated or incorrect, SearchGPT may provide unreliable answers. But i think they will get better at this as time progresses.

  • Less Human Touch: The convenience of AI might lead to less personal engagement with the research process, something that many still value in travel planning.

What This Means for You

As travel professionals, it's essential to stay ahead of the curve with tools like SearchGPT. While it can enhance the efficiency of your research, it’s crucial to balance this with human insight and expertise. Here’s how you can leverage this new tool:

  • Use SearchGPT for Initial Research: Quickly gather background information or narrow down options before diving into deeper, personalized research. The options it gave me are spot on, but not all is accurate

  • Verify and Personalize: Always double-check the information provided by AI tools to ensure its accuracy, and tailor it to suit your unique insights and client needs. The information I got misspoke on the tour of the Boeing factory :-( as the 787 is now assembled in South Carolina .

  • Stay Curious: Keep experimenting with SearchGPT to discover how it can complement your current processes, rather than replace them. Use the tool when you get a chance; see what it’s doing it’s learning from you too.
